Every time the government announces another increase in public expenditure to try to get Spain out of the crisis, it seems they are paying the bill. Unfortunately this is not the case: We pay the bill. The increase in national debt will be paid back with our taxes, so in fact the government is wasting our money, and our children's money. I do not mean that I am against public expenditure, but I am really concerned about how my money is spent, specially because I have the feeling that a great amount of this money is wasted if not stolen by corrupt politicians. What can I do? I don't think I can do anything, my perception is that it doesn't matter who is in charge of the country, my money will be equally wasted.

Social benefits are necessary, but it should be beard in mind that money is a scarce resource. To finance the expenditure the government has to borrow money from investors all around the world. To that end the Treasury issue fixed rate assets (e.g. bonds). Because of the imbalance between rising expenses a lowering tax income, the deficit increases and investors perceive higher risk in the Spanish economy and ask for a higher return. That means that we have to pay more interest to get the money we need. To stop this is necessary to implement measures to stimulate our economy and, at the same time, to control our deficit. This is a difficult task which may require some unpopular measures, but most politicians are only worried in winning next elections...
