A. If you are in doubt,

1. you can check the website of the Spanish insurance authorities ('Dirección General de Seguros y Fondos de Pensiones') currently http://www.dgsfp.meh.es/ (English version ... http://www.dgsfp.meh.es/index_in.asp )

2. Click on 'información sobre el sector '

3. Click on 'registros públicos '

4(a). Click on 'Punto Único de mediadores de seguros y reaseguros'

4(b). Click on ' entidades no autorizadas ' (unauthorised organisations) to check that the agent, agency, broker or insurance organisation is not on the black list...

5. In the right-hand box of on 'Punto Único de mediadores de seguros y reaseguros' (next to 'Clave inscripción registro') type the Spanish registration number of the agent, agency, broker (and then click on 'buscar'). This number should appear on all websites and publicity.

6. If the agent, agency, broker is authorised to operate in Spain under the establishment rules - the name should appear on this list

Insurance agents, agencies and brokers also have to comply with Spanish civil liability insurance regulations

Suma asegurada / sum insured euros
Por siniestro / per claim 1.120.200
Por anualidad / yearly 1.680.300

I don't have insurance for handling money as all payments are collected by the insurance companies I work with from the client's account and made by the insurance companies to the account (this is also applicable to the other insurance companies I work for).

Insurance agents who collect premium payments (normally in cash) must have that insurance cover ('seguro de caución') - so ask for policy details if you are in doubt!
